ladies and gentlemen, we have answers...

Queue the questions...

So, what's the point of all of this?

That sounds like a question for Voltaire or Schopenhauer.  If, however, by “all of this” you mean spotlets, well the answer to that is simple: ease of use for the rest of us.  spotlets gives you the keys to your own website and puts you behind the wheel.  No more webmaster or your neighbor's ten year-old son telling you how to manage your presence on the web.  spotlets makes editing and keeping your website updated as easy as writing a word document and pointing and clicking.

Sounds intriguing...so how do I get started?
Intriguing?  Of course we are!  We are also tall, dark, and handsome.  But enough bravado...click here to get started with spotlets right away!

Do clicking on ads repeatedly earn spotlets money?
No, but creating fun and interesting content and updating your website often ensures that spotlets continues to be available for free to everyone.  So go make your spotlet the best it can be!

What does WYSIWYG mean?
“What You See Is What You Get”...it's what makes spotlets so easy to use!

There's too much space in between the lines of text on my page; I just want one space.  How do I adjust this?
Press SHIFT + RETURN every time you want to start a new line.

What is a “feature image”?

A “feature image” is the image at the top of the page below the header and above the page content.  Please see our Glossary of Terms to better familiarize yourself.

How do I insert an image into an article?

There are two ways to do this.  You can either add an image as a “body image” or you can add an image into the text of an article by clicking this icon (add_image_WYSIWYG).  Click here for more information.

How do I add an image into the body of my text?
Look for this icon (add_image_WYSIWYG) at the top of the editing template.  You can also add a body image. Click here for more information.

What's the difference between a “body image” and an image that I insert into the text of an article?
The main difference is the consistency of the look of the site.  Insertion of a “body image” photo will always be in the same place with the same margins from page to page.  Inserting an image within the article's text, however, may yield varying results from page to page.  With spotlets, the choice is always yours, of course.

Okay, I've decided that I want to add a “body image” to my article.  How to I get an image from my computer onto my website?

Click this icon (add_image_WYSIWYG), then click “Browse.”  Select your image from your computer (whether it be on your desktop, in a file folder, etc.).  Once the image is selected, click “Upload.”  If  the upload is successful, you will be prompted.  Click 'okay'.  The photo is now in the images folder .  Select the folder, then hit 'okay.'  Your image is now ready to be seen.  Click here for more information.

I made this really cool and really informative PDF file.  So how do I add it to my page?
Just like the images, you can either use the “Download Manager” or add downloads within the text of an article.  Again, this is all about consistency, depending on which you use.  If you want to add a download within the text of the page, click this icon (insert_download) within the WYSIWYG Editor.  To add a download under the “Download Manager,” upload your PDF file (or other document) the same as you would an image.   Click here for more information.

I want to link an image to another page.  How do I do this?

It's as easy selecting the image and then clicking this icon (add_link).  Here, you can adjust where the image links to.  Simply put in the new page address and click your selection (new window, new tab, etc.).  Click here for more information.

How do I link a word to a new page?
The same way as the picture, only you would highlight the word in the WYSIWYG Editor before clicking the link icon (add_link).  Click here for more information.

How do I link something to my friend's website or another site?

The same way you would link an image or word to another page within your own website.  Simply alter the website you want the link to go to.

How do I move an article from one page to another?
Cut and paste within the editing template to best move an article.  You may need to adjust some areas of the article depending on the placement of the photos and headers within the article.

How do I move an article within the navigation bar?
Simply drag it and drop it.  All articles are moveable within the sections they are in.  It's that easy!

I've made changes to my page, but I'm not 100% sure if it looks like I want it to.  Do I have to save the changes before I can view my new page?

That would be a pain, now wouldn't it?  The whole point of spotlets is ease of use coupled with an ability to save you time.  If you have to edit then save, then edit then save until it looks perfectly right, then we wouldn't be doing our job.  That's why there's a preview button (previewBtn) to make sure you only save your changes when you the page looks the way you want.

I've decided to change my template.  Can I do this?
Sure!  You may need to adjust some photos and content once the change-over is made, though.  Simply go to the Design Section and select a new template.

How do I add a new page?

Oh, this is so easy!  Simply click the add a page icon (add) under which ever section suits your fancy.  Label your page, and you're off!

How many pages can I have on my site?
Five and three-fourths.  Or as many as you'd like.  We had two choices here at spotlets.  We went with the latter one and we think we chose well...

What is Human-Readable URL?

We don't know about you, but “www.spotlets.com/content.jsp?articleId=101” doesn't make too much intuitive sense to us here at spotlets.  However, “www.spotlets.com/vanilla _tacos” tells us that we just stumbled upon a page discussing our favorite food!  Human-Readable URLs make navigating your website that much easier and intuitive (and, in our case, tastier!).  Simply type in what name you want your new page to reflect and the address bar will read it as such.

How do I add a YouTube video to my site?
So your buddy made a video of his dog licking peanut butter from the roof of its mouth that's just so hilarious that you need the world to see it on your spotlet?  And now you want to embed it into your new spotlet, huh?  Fair enough and...you guessed it...easy enough.  Simply get the embed code of the YouTube video of your choice (the embed code is found on the right hand side of the video on YouTube).  Go to the WYSIWYG Editor of the desired section and click the “Tag Editor” icon (edit_html_script).  Paste the embed code and click “Okay.”  Save the changes and your spotlet now has a video of Spike licking Jif® from the roof of his mouth!  Congrats!
